June 13– Undersheriff Brewer transported a prisoner from Hutchinson Correctional Facility to Barber County Jail.

June 13– Shaleth D. Ake, Clearwater, driving a 2006 Toyota Prius had an accident after her hood flew open while driving five miles each of Hazelton. There were no injuries and unknown damage. Accident was worked by Deputy Woods, and Kiowa ambulance also responded.

June 14– Tanner M. Robb, Fort Campbell, KY, driving a 2011 Ford Fusion, struck a deer on US-281 five miles south of Medicine Lodge. There were no injuries and over $1,000 damage. Accident was investigated by Deputy Paasch.

June 15– Sheriff Small, Undersheriff Brewer and Deputy Woods investigated a stolen vehicle at the Farmers Coop on River Road.

June 15– Kiowa ambulance transferred a patient to St. Francis Medical Center in Wichita.

June 15– Undersheriff Brewer and Deputy Woods responded to an alarm at the Peoples Bank in Sharon.

June 15– Kiowa ambulance transported a patient to Via Christi Medical Center in Wichita.

June 15– Kiowa ambulance, Kiowa Rural Fire Dept. and Barber County Sheriff’s Office responded to a semi rollover accident on US-281. Kiowa ambulance transported a patient to Kiowa District Hospital. Accident was investigated by Kansas Highway Patrol.

June 15– Deputy Paasch and Hazelton Fire Dept. responded to downed power lines on Scott Canyon Road.

June 15– Sheriff Small and Undersheriff Brewer conducted a welfare check at a residence north of Hardtner and checked on damage to the house due to the weather. All occupants were okay. Deputy Paasch advised on broken powerlines and poles in that area.

June 15– Deputy Paasch responded to powerline poles damaged at Crown Point and Rattlesnake Trail Roads.

June 15– Deputy Paasch responded to a powerline laying across Catalpa Road. Barber County Road and Bridge was called out to put up barricades.

June 16- Deputy Paasch transported a prisoner to Medicine Lodge Memorial Hospital.

June 16– Barber County Sheriff’s Office, Medicine Lodge ambulance, Sharon Fire Dept. and Medicine Lodge Rescue One responded to a truck rolled over on its side on TriCity Road north of Sharon. There was no transport. Accident was investigated by Kansas Highway Patrol.

June 16– Elwood Fire Dept. and Union Chapel Fire Dept. responded to a grass fire north of Union Chapel on Gyp Hill Road.

June 16– Deputy Paasch and Undersheriff Brewer investigated an unattended death on Pleasant Hill Road. Medicine Lodge ambulance, county attorney and coroner also responded to the call.

June 17– Deputy Woods, Medicine Lodge ambulance, Medicine Lodge Rural Fire Dept. and Rescue One responded to a rollover accident on US-160. Ambulance transported two patients to Medicine Lodge Memorial Hospital. Accident was investigated by Kansas Highway Patrol.

June 4– Medicine Lodge Rural Fire Dept. responded to an unattended campfire at the Barber County State Lake.

June 4– Union Chapel and Hardtner Fire Depts. responded to an oilfield compressor on fire on Gyp Hill Road.

May 11– Victor D. Reif, Osborne, KS, driving a semi truck owned by Penske Truck Leasing Co., struck a 2003 Dodge Durango driven by Matthew Woods of Hardtner. There was over $1,000 damage and Woods was taken by ambulance to Kiowa District Hospital. He has since been released. Accident was worked by Kiowa Police Department, Sheriff Small, Undersheriff Brewer, Deputy Suchy and Deputy Miller. Kiowa ambulance also responded.

An investigation by the Kiowa Police Department and Barber County Sheriff’s Office resulted in the service of a search warrant and arrest of five persons on Friday, April 8, at a residence on Campbell Street. All five were charged on various drug related charges.

Arrested were Sonya D. Bush, Hardtner; Timothy L. Brown, Kiowa; Brandy J. Brown, Kiowa; Daniel J. Cook, Alva, OK; Bradford K. Prophet, Alva, OK.

Kiowa Police Chief Steven Johnson said Monday that a large quantity of a substance that tested positive for methamphetamine was found, as well as various paraphernalia for use and distribution of the drug. He also thanked the other agencies involved in the search and arrests, along with Kiowa EMS and county dispatch.

Agencies involved in the arrests were the Kiowa Police Dept., Barber County Sheriff, Medicine Lodge Police Dept. and a deputy from Harper County Sheriff Dept.
